One question bank, six formats

The Learning Library team · · 4 min read

A worksheet, a quiz, a test and an exit ticket look different, but they draw on the same thing: the key concepts of a chapter. So every shelf builds one bank of concepts once, and every paper is generated fresh from it, in whatever format you need.

The six formats

FormatDefault lengthWhat's on itAnswers
Worksheet15 questionsName and date; room to write; no pointsSeparate key
Quiz10 questionsPoints; 15-minute limit; score boxSeparate key
Test25 questionsPoints; 45-minute limit; spread from recall to applicationSeparate key
Practice set15 questionsA hint under each question that points to the idea, not the answerUnder each question
Exit ticket3 questionsVery short; shows whether the main idea landedSeparate key
Homework12 questionsDue date; applying ideas to new examples; full-sentence answersSeparate key

Change any setting (title, instructions, header fields, points, time limit, hints or where the answers go) and it becomes a custom paper.

What changes between them

It's more than the layout. Each format tells the generator what the paper is for: a practice set gets hints because it's for learning, while a test gets precise wording and no hints because it's for checking. That's the line almost every official assessment system draws between feedback and grading.

Fresh every time

Each paper picks concepts, question types and wording with some randomness, avoiding questions you've used recently. Students meet new questions instead of last week's sheet, so practice measures understanding rather than memory of the answers. If one question isn't right, swap just that one.

How this connects to our solution

  • Belief 5: "Practice is for learning; tests are for checking. The format makes the purpose clear."
  • Belief 6: "Fresh questions, not recycled ones."
  • Belief 8: teachers choose, swap and edit.
  • How it works, step 3: "A new worksheet, quiz or test in one click, every time."
